Subreddit RulesThese are the abridged rules.Top rule - BE NICE. Please try to be polite, friendly and helpful when commenting. Trolling, slapfights, general assholery is not encouraged and it also goes without saying that racist, sexist, homophobic, and transphobic posts and language will not be tolerated at all. Please ensure you are posting to the correct subreddit.Any and all beginner questions and posts should be made in. Beginner posts will be deleted.DJ Setup pictures belong in.Meme/Humor/crappy image posts belong in.Mixes - Most mix posts will be deleted although short routines, showcasing of interesting technique, and videos that shows off the poster doing something cool is fine. We will also allow high profile posts - say if a regular user gets a feature mix on DJCity or a Serato sponsored set or a established DJ set.Gig pictures/Stories - should be posted in the weekly gigs threadThe following topics are against sub rules and will be deleted:.

Self-promotion posts including mixes, tunes, events, companies, etc. For sale posts. Posts discussing music piracy (in the sense of people asking how where or how to pirate music, if you want to have an actual discussion on piracy and how it pertains to the industry, by all means). Support the people who make your hobby/career possible. Obvious spam for youtube channels/gig logs/blogs/advertisements.

Posts asking “what should I play for this gig?”. Spotify playlist postsPLEASE REPORT posts and comments that violate the above rules or just suck. One that I would recommend for a beginner is Algoriddim Djay Pro. Here's just some of the pros:.

Spotify Integration. Support for Windows, Mac, and mobile devices (the mobile app is my backup if my laptop crashes). Vjay visuals are built in.

Simple easy to learns interface. Easy setup for most controllers, sometimes even automaticI own Traktor but don't really use it much anymore just because Algorridm gets the job done and with Spotify integration I don't even have to constantly keep a library up to date. It’s why I get kind of annoyed every time people talk shit about streaming options for existing software - it’s not like they chose to exclude the industry leading streaming site - Spotify simply doesn’t allow it.That said, I don’t really use streaming too much.

I have a subscription to tidal and I’m still on the fence about getting rid of it. It has come in useful at some gigs, but I still don’t entirely trust it as I’ve had crashes with it.I still subscribe to Spotify, and I was considering ending that for tidal, but the searching, curated options, and app in general is just so much more superior to tidal. I've been DJing for 25 years. Last few years mostly as a hobby.I was a hardcore Serato user but have replaced it completely now with Djay Pro2. The app itself is good enough, and the Spotify integration important enough to completely switch.I used it for three paid gigs last month and it did the job.One caveat is you have to be online, it just won't start offline. That said, I used it on a mobile 3/4g connection on an island and it worked with no glitches so it doesn't need much.Regarding the audio quality, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Spotify in Djay Pro, 320mp3 in Serato, a cd or vinyl. I've been a fan of Virtual DJ for years now. I like the versatility of VDJ, because since I started using it about 8 years ago, it's been able play multiple forms of media (music, video, karaoke, etc) without any add-ons.Also, I appreciate that I can use any controller, mixer, dvs box with VDJ, unlike Serato, where you can only use specifically licensed products.

I've used both Serato and Recordbox controllers with VDJ.I love the fact that it has multiple, customizable skins and that the community can create skins and plugins, as well.I learned on Serato, but then migrated to VDJ not too long after. I think knowing Serato helps, just in case you're at a club that's insistent on it (it's rare, but I've seen it and you can always skin VDJ to look like Serato). Ultimately, it's whatever you're most comfortable with, good luck.

Virtual DJs file management system is really good. It also has integrated video features, really in depth settings to customize the software, the auto play feature gets really in depth in comparison to Traktor at least, it's a really great all around software.I see people talking about Algoriddim Djay, idk honestly why anyone would legitimately use that over any free version of Traktor, Rekordbox, Virtual DJ, or Serato. Also, I see people talking about good software to learn to beat mix on, and that's definitely Traktor. If your grid is set up right you can always see if you're on beat by looking at the bar above the waveform. And then all you have to do is cover it up with some tape when you want to get comfortable without it, it's like having beat mixing training wheels.
